Shake It Off and Step Up

I'm pretty sure that I've never posted this joke/parable before. I've thought about it a lot though, 'cause it's really something I've reminded myself about during so many bizarro times in my life.

Well, there is an extra bit at the end of this one. After the Give More - Expect Less confusion (expect less from others, is what I believe it's saying,) there's a kinda cruel karmic tag which I don't recall from earlier versions. Makes sense, too, IMO. Harsh as may be.

Tip o' m' cap to a coworker whose sense of humor generally triggers my own laughter in very timely ways. Hope it gives a chuckle this morning, eh.

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a
well. The animal cried piteously for hours as
the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the
well needed to be covered up anyway;

it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and
help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began
to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the
donkey realized what was happening and cried
horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he
quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally
looked down the well. He was astonished at what
he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his
back, the donkey was doing something amazing.
He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel
dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it
off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey
stepped up over the edge of the well and
happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds
of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well
is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of
our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out
of the deepest wells just by not stopping,
never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.

Free your mind from worries - Most never happen.

Live simply and appreciate what you have.

Give more.

Expect less

Enough of that crap
. . The donkey later came back,

and bit the farmer who had tried to bury him.

The gash from the bite got infected and

the farmer eventually died in agony from septic shock.

MORAL FROM TODAY'S LESSON:

When you do something wrong, and try to cover
your ass, it always comes back to bite you.

You have two choices...smile and close this
page, or pass this along to someone else to
spread the fun.

  1. May the Donkey Dems come back and bite the Rethugs ass! Funny story - thanks.

  2. Yow...if I tilt my screen at a 45 degree angle to my eyes, I can almost make out the pale yellow text on the pale grey background.

Today's lesson: Contrast leads to comments. ;-)

  3. Hhmm... It is a little tricky to read. There's also a coolish pic which didn't show. It was Donkey from the Shrek series and, for whatever reason (think it has to do with Lotus Notes, from which I forwarded this) the link broke on blogger.

Eh, thanks, Frog. I'll see if I can change that font color. May not be possible.

  4. And the donkey is still trotting around, looking for more wells to fall into?
    Story of my life...

    Loved it, thanks!

  5. Yeah right, Kvatch. "If you change it, they will come."

    Hah!

    You're very welcome, Nava. :) I don't think you'd ever have to worry whether or not the FarmerB would do everything in his power to pull you out o' dem wells, m'Lady. {-;

  6. Let's hope you are right.
In any case, I'll keep practicing shaking it off and stepping up.
FarmerB, Eh? I think we should all call him 'Johnny The Duster' from now on :-)
