Oh well, I'm absolutely happy that there a mathematicians at any rate. So many of the axioms of that particular discipline just leave me agonizingly frustrated and dissapointed by my own limitations.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia - Scientists in northeastern Ethiopia said Saturday that they have discovered the skull of a small human ancestor that could be a missing link between the extinct Homo erectus and modern man.
The hominid cranium — found in two pieces and believed to be between 500,000 and 250,000 years old — 'comes from a very significant period and is very close to the appearance of the anatomically modern human,' said Sileshi Semaw, director of the Gona Paleoanthropological Research Project in Ethiopia.
Archaeologists found the early human cranium five weeks ago at Gawis in Ethiopia's northeastern Afar region, Sileshi said.
Several stone tools and fossilized animals including two types of pigs, zebras, elephants, antelopes, cats, and rodents were also found at the site.

"A good fossil provides anatomical evidence that allows us to refine our understanding of evolution. A great fossil forces us to re-examine our views of human origins. I believe the Gawis cranium is a great fossil," said Scott Simpson, a project paleontologist from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine at Cleveland, Ohio.And this is the kind of discovery that totally makes me wonder how so many folks can not understand animal evolution? It ain't like it's algebra or something like that.
Scientists conducting surveys in the Gawis River drainage basin found the skull in a small gully, the project statement said.
"This is really exciting because it joins a limited number of fossils which appear to be evolutionary between Homo erectus and our own species Homo sapiens," said Eric Delson, a paleoanthropologist at Lehman College of the City University of New York, who was not involved in the discovery but has followed the project.

Hey, I teach pre-algebra to 8th graders.. my son is in some advanced HS geometry course and I can't understand 1/2 of what he's doing. If he struggled with it, we'd have to get a tutor because I honestly probably couldn't help him... too advanced for me! Fortunately he doesn't struggle with it so far. He's WILEY E. COYOTE...SUPERGENIUS.

Whilst I was married and there for my 5th grade s-daughter, the only homework with which I had any trouble helping her was Math. {shakin'head} Fractions are easy! lol Once she got into math I didn't start learning 'til 7th grade, I started getting frustrated cuz the rules were so hard to keep in m' noggin'. I just wanted to Run! away from it. WTF??? All I could do was joke and poke fun at myself for it. Thankfully, she got tutoring and it's now her best class. {whew!}
ReplyDeleteI just got accepted to grad school, and should've filled out and sent in my forms last week. I freeze and "freak" everytime I attempt just getting started on any of them!
It's easy. I just "can't" do it. I want to though so have to find a way. Since it's so far inside my head, I don't know how to "fix" it though...
The good news is; I always have a blast w/ the particular pal I was with last night. We are completely above board on what we want from each other, and we still find ways to surprise each other! She's already got the degree I want (International Diplomacy) but it came from a Yugoslavian univ and she switched to Financial Services mgnt since coming to the US.
