It Can Happen
I really just feel the need to share some of the Good News happening in our world. This definitely qualifies as an intractable human insanity where sanity is gaining traction.
Thanks Goodness.

Olivia WardWorking for peace in Northern Ireland for 12 years, (retired Canadian Lt. Gen, John) de Chastelain heads an independent international commission that monitors the disarmament of paramilitaries. The Irish Republican Army gave up armed struggle in 2005, and two major Protestant paramilitaries have softened their stance, but not yet handed in their weapons.
"One has rejected paramilitarism and criminality, which is a very positive step," de Chastelain said in a phone interview from Ottawa. "It's indicative of the general mood in the North."
Long-term observers agree.
"We've come full circle from the hysterical to the historical," said Chris Anderson, a journalist and author of The Billy Boy, about the death of a feared Protestant paramilitary leader.
"You have those who killed, maimed and bombed their way to respectability hand in glove with those who hated them the most. Most people welcome a devolved assembly – but they just can't get their heads around this."
[from the hysterical to the historical]
Well, I hope so. I really, really hope so.
ReplyDeleteThis IS good news. I think a lot of people are watching the violence around the world and deciding not to be in that. I hope it works.
ReplyDeleteso simple: all we are saying is give peace a chance. blood on the ground just shows sometimes animals are more civilized than us.
ReplyDeleteOne wonders how Bobby Sands would have responded to this day in N.Ireland. One also wonders how much of this is shaped by the extensive public education system in Ireland that has educated a whole new generation of thinkers and the boom in the economy. Ireland is the new Israel which is the new black.
