Cartoon Crusades???

der Spiegel has seemed to me the most relevant source for information on the Cartoon Crusades.

"Crusades is a terrible choice of words" you say?
[Link] There were some voices on the other end of the spectrum. The Italian right called for a crusade. Roberto Calderoli, a minister in Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's cabinet, called in all seriousness for Pope Benedict XVI to lead the Christian world against the "threat of Islam" just has his predecessors did in the 16th and 17th centuries. Just as a major reaction was necessary then to beat back the Turks from the gates of Vienna, Calderoli said, counter-measures are necessary.

Calderoli didn't have to wait long for a response. "Berlusconi must fire his minister and ask Islam for forgiveness," demanded Seif al-Islam al-Gadhafi, son of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi. Otherwise, al-Gadhafi threatened, "Libya, the Arabic world, and Islam would be forced to react."

Well, THAT is a messed up idea, right there, that is ...

Still, It seems that I need to get back to checking the World Press review and Watching America for more indepth - though quite frankly, quite sickening - coverage of much of the Islamic Press.

When you don't know the POV of the other side, no matter how inaccurate it may be, you really don't know what points to specifically make in your argument.

Now, to keep looking for those reports of killings as a result of the Calls for Death over the 'toons. I've not found any stories or even brief news-snippets to that effect yet. That's both enheartening and perplexing.

I hope I'm right that there have been
, to date, no killings directly attributable to the 'Toon Wars.
