Preoccupado

They say our memories are all any of us really own. Minute by minute existence rushes by us and is gone in a heart beat, or less, leaving us naught but two things: anticipation of more fleeting instants and those billions of instants gone, stored - or not - in the physiological structures of our brains.

I don't know as this path (started in earnest* at the end of last summer) will really help me resolve the craziness keeping me from a good life experience. At the very least, it's making me think and preoccupying my brain so's that it can't stay preoccupied with the kind o' crap that's been making me ever more emu since as long as I can recall.

To clarify that somewhat; blah blah blah... I can get over my history one way or another.

This tack, while a helluvalot tougher that some others I've attempted, is at least far less self-destructive.

  1. Or you could just wander around like the rest of us, trying to do the best we can with this day. Suffering or Joyful - Either way, it takes the same amount of work.

  2. Ahhh... Thanks and is true. But not w/o an unhealthy abundance of chemical distractions/entertainments, Mary. I'm really pretty tired of relyin' 'pon things to get me by which've got side-effects that prevent retention of new memories and keep me lazy.

More importantly, so are my heart & lungs.

  3. Crap! AG knows Eric Kandal.

Put up some NY area photos of the flooding here on RoD. Also, great photos on the NY Times page are linked. The Boston Marathon photo is excellent. Everyone is safe here.

  6. I believe most of us also own our actions. Some cannot, I know that. But within each of those fleeting instants are possibilities, opportunities to will our conscious selves to act. Sometimes the consequences are good. Sometimes, they're not.

The human brain is an infinite frontier. You are an explorer of that frontier. And to do that on your own is hardly lazy-assed, methinks.

Thanks for sharing some of the journey with us.

  7. Hang in there, Michael.
There seems to be something in the air this week. Can't explain it, but somehow, many around me seem to be at a low point. Including yours truly.
For what it's worth: you are not alone.

  8. I think stress of work took my brain years ago. I just do the best I can and hope I don't go looney at least for another 25 years.
