  1. Yay.

Now let's get the nonsense out of the way and rejuvenate the whole space program so we can actually GO somewhere with it! I understand being concerned about safety, but I think we've been paranoid about it for years. Nobody expects space to be safe; those who do are still sleeping. We need to be willing to take some risks for this to work... and that means losing a few people but also spending a ton of money at least initially. I'd much rather see space travel be a publicly-funded endeavor than have it be either corporate controlled or military controlled.

Whatever happened to that spaceplane that won the X-prize? Why isn't the government or UN investing in making that work and building a few dozen of those? I know a defunct airport (Worcester, MA) that would make a great spaceport for them...

And the fact is the people at risk are extremely intelligently informed about those risks and KNOW that they are worth it.

... also spending a ton of money at least initially.

Oh my no! How are we gonna afford all those pretty "bunker-buster nukes" that we need so badly to protect us from Osama bin Saud, er, I mean Ladin...

Yep, the Chimperor talks the talk for Space Exploration but I really think it's only cuz he KNOWS that it won't be His adminstration paying the actual bills. He's gotta be sure that he'll get all the credit for promoting the idea but precious little of the blame for the funds it will take from other needs.

I said "needs" cuz we all know that money ain't coming from Military R & D.

    Assinine morons...

But we have GOT to pursue human space initiatives for both the inevitable tech-advances that always spur new industry and development for everyone as well as for the simple but undeniable evolutionary imperative that Homo explores. If it didn't its line would have failed millenia ago.
