Seriously Cross-posting - 15 Angles (Albums)

Facebook has kinda taken over my online time.

Take the following for xample.

L8!

I don't recall exactly when the tag to do this arrived, but know it's been over a week now. For some reason, I am determined to get this one done, though.

Uh huh.

Think of 15 albums that had such a profound effect on you they changed your life or the way you looked at it. They sucked you in and took you over for days, weeks, months, years. These are the albums that you can use to identify time, places, people, emotions. They might not be what you listen to now, but these are the albums that no matter what they were thought of musically shaped your world.

When you finish, tag 15 others, including me. Make sure you copy and paste this part so they know the drill. Get the idea now? Good. Tag, you're it!

1: Al Stewart's In the Year of the Cat immediately caught my imagination at 'bout age 12.
On a morning from a Bogart movie.
In a country where they turned back time.
Until the rise of Talabanic/al Qaeda style terrorism, who wouldn't want to go?! (Guitarist Peter White is still out there doin' the quasi-smooth jazz & blues scenes, if you're interested.)
Heeeere kittykittykittykittykitty!

2) Kiss Destroyer did exactly what it was supposed to do for a gangly, self-conscious pre-adolescent kid whose voice hadn't even started changing yet. Just wish I would've had a stage coach when I sang "Beth" in that 5th grade talent show. Hands clasped behind m' back did doom me.
In my Rock Star fantasies, I was always the one on the far left. "The Lover"
lol!

3) Jefferson Starship Earth had an album cover to get lost within and, aside from some really groovy pop tracks, a couple of classic Jams to help me not care to be found again.
...in the ruins of a once-mighty castle
in lands where the sun casts no shadow
signs and wonders
sound of thunder
all night long
All Night Long!

4) Alice Cooper Goes to Hell Yah... prolly shouldn't have got sooooo drunk on this one as a kid, But the thought of a girl who wouldn't tell me "I love you, but like a brother..."
If I live to 97
she'll still be waitin' in Refrigerator Heaven

YIKES!!! lol! D'oh!
No wonder I've seen so many shrinks... {shudder}

5) Barry Manilow Trying to Get the Feeling came to my awareness around the same time. Wow! Yah... I kissed more girls before I knew HOW to kiss than I did in all of HS. {shakin'head}

6) Queen A Night at the Opera Ahhhh... the sealing of the deal that my life would be about teh melodrama.
I don't wanna die
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all...

7) Kiss "Alive II" Simple, hooky songs made powerful by Volume and crowd noise. SHOUT IT OUT LOUD! Hellz ya!

8) Queen A Day at the Races Heh! Because I may be schizoidal but I'm still a Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy. Drowse has especially stayed with thru' the years.
Never wanted to be
the boy next door
Always thought I'd be
something more...

9) Jeff Beck "There and Back" This one reminded me what a guitar could Really do! And no lyrics to add to my substantial 16 yo internal confusions.

10) Todd Rungren Hermit of Mink Hollow As BG pointed out, All The Children Sing! This album really got me writing song lyrics.

11) The Who Hooligans All I can see is that I listened to this on A LOT. Probably "Bargain" is still my favorite Who jam. Hmmm... well that, Baba O'Reiley and a live version of Won't Get Fooled Again from the mid 80s.
Hoo baby! A fence! Let's jump it!!!

12) The Cars The Cars and Candy O at the same time! Got 'em both for my 14th. So many classics. So little homework getting done!
Hey BG! Google image search found this on Your Blog! Niiice. Thx!

13) Yes Fragile My cousin Hed first led me down this trail of artful prog rock. Thanks amigo! Talk about "mind expanding"!
Roger Dean's artwork gave this young man's brain new oceans in which to swim with the band's musical exploits.

14) Iron Maiden Piece of Mind Honestly, I think if I hadn't discovered yes first, Maiden's guitar work might have slipped past my awareness. Until I heard this album, metal was more about the pop-boppers for me. These guys were Real Musicians making music with the kind of edge I'd only heard from the likes of Kiss, Aerosmith and Led Zep, and taking it to an entirely other level. Fans can argue they had better albums, but this is the one that opened the genre to me. Awesome. Truly.
I've no doubt that you think I'm off my head
You don't say but it's in your eyes instead
Hours I spend out just gazing into that pool
Something draws me there I don't know what to do.
Oh...they drain my strength away
Oh...they're asking me to stay.
Nightmares...spirits calling me
Nightmares...they won't leave me be.

One spot left, huh... Alrighty then.

15) Pearl Jam 10 Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit may indeed have kicked the lid off the Grunge explosion, but this album got me playing guitar again after about a 5 year hiatus. Wondering what the next one will be. I'm be slumpin'...

Das ist alles
