My (sort of) Blue State, Ohio

Evidence is is overwhelming and, perhaps more surprisingly, many of the Several States are actually heeding it. Abstinence Only Education makes for more pregnant teenagers. If you've got to ask why (outside of the context of Scientific research) then you are Not paying attention to your own body.

Abstinence Programs Face Rejection
More States Opt to Turn Down the Federal Money Attached to That Kind of Sex Ed

The number of states refusing federal money for "abstinence-only" sex education programs jumped sharply in the past year as evidence mounted that the approach is ineffective.

At least 14 states have either notified the federal government that they will no longer be requesting the funds or are not expected to apply, forgoing more than $15 million of the $50 million available, officials said. Virginia was the most recent state to opt out.

Two other states -- Ohio and Washington -- have applied but stipulated they would use the money for comprehensive sex education, effectively making themselves ineligible, federal officials said. While Maryland and the District are planning to continue applying for the money, other states are considering withdrawing as well.

[They are gonna do it so make sure they're not afraid/ashamed/too embarrassed to do it right!]

Don't worry. Be prepared.

Happy Sunday!

  1. reading that was like the sound effect where they stop the record by pulling the needle across it. that blows my mind in a good way.

  4. It's a pleasure to have you here, E4E! Thank you.

Even one of the Local Extreme Morning Shows was talking about this AO BS. The only thing I think that too many adversaries of the AO programs leave out is that Abstinence in itself is a great idea. lol! The trick, as it were, is more importantly to get kids to understand that Sex is a Biological Imperative which they can moderate by the way they think about it, but that will, despite MOST folks' best efforts, occasionally bubble up inside as an overwhelming and physiologically dominating urge which no amount of intellectualizing or spiritualizing will suppress. When that happens, you just gotta KNOW what to do to be safe while letting such a wave overtake you.

THAT's what needs to be taught. Contingency planning for the inevitability of Nature. But, of course, so many Religious devotees (aka, your average Homo Sapiens) tend to ignore nature in favor of their favored superstitions, thus missing out on the very Awe of reality which they claim is so "miraculous". Life is AMAZING enough without reverting to supernatural explanations for it.

  5. Been awhile (sorry) and indeed your header etc looks quite spiffy!

By the looks of indy-anna, nothing works.

    Cheers!

  6. No worries and it's always great to read ya, Coffee! Thanks. I love the header too. My bro took the pic from some boat trip either last summer or the one before.

Sorry Indy's still so... so. OH is borderline, if you know what I mean. Most folks understand freedom, but even most of them have a pretty narrow focus for its application. Bad Habits, don't ya know.

    Happy Holidays!

  7. Hey..... didn't Jamie Lynn Spears talk all the time about her "Christianity," and her desire to remain chaste until marriage?

Ted changed everything here. We have a Government with a functioning brain now.

  8. Hi, came to you via Chicken Fat...

I'm a Christian and a mom and at one time I was 16 and "in love". I don't care how much you love the Lord folks are human and folks make poor decisions in the heat of the moment.

Which is why I attempt to have open dialogue with my daughter. She knows I'd rather she wait and I'd rather she remember why she shouldn't before marriage, but just in case she also knows how to prevent pregnancy as well.

    Information does not encourage...it informs.

  9. Imagine that, eh JR! It's been since.. well, I really think Voinovich isn't (wasn't) totally worthless, despite some really insane - though unfortunately rather commonplace - ideas about the world, but the same could be said of just 'bout anyone, though to a smaller extent than of your average modern Rethuglican. Celeste was still the last governor I REALLY understood and supported; even with his own brand of quirks, but Teddy S is so far doing better than I thought he would. Nice surprise.

Hi there, EHT! I'm glad you stopped over from Ed's place. He's a great friend to have in common.

What you've said is all I'm saying on the topic. Whatever a person's Faith, and whatever other - often incredibly Wonderful - things it gives them, it can never replace knowledge of the Ways Things Work.

Thanks for dropping by and sharing your piece. Is much appreciated. :)

  10. there was another thing recently about universities now teaching a teaching course for creationists.

honestly, if you give these people the run of government then we will be back to burning witches and dung for dinner before you can say 'dark ages'
