Touch 'n' Go

This kinda 'puter is going to be perfect for me when it finally arrives and is about as affordable as a conventional HDTV.

I'd love to see what its music software interface might look like!

Thanks to mi hermana, Deanna, for the link.

  1. It looks to complicated for AG. :)

  2. Sorry, that was supposed to be too!

  3. LOL! Believe me, AG. Part of the reason I like it so much is cuz I think it'll be even Easier to use than current computers.

I've been around these things since about 1980 and, for most of that time, I hated them! I didn't want anything to do with 'em cuz they were just "too complicated". :)

This stuff really looks like it's closing in on what computers were in the SF books I read in High School: invisibly ubiquitous.

    Me likey!

  4. Cool! I was reading about a new laptop for $200 that is just for e-mail and internet. That would be great if that is your main activity on the computer.

  5. this is amazing! i love this kinda stuff. almost reminds me of the "minority report" cpu's.

  6. Dig it, PCM. There's a group supplying non-industrialized countries with similarly inexpensive 'puters for just that reason. Processing power today is capable of doing all kinds of non-essential functions; mostly to do with Graphic displays. The more folks who've got access to the more typically home-economics related needs, the more people there'll be who can absorb some of the highly-concentrated wealth that's currently stalling economic growth.

    Yo Raffi! What are those?

  7. OK, it says that the video i'm trying to watch is unavailable...should i take this personally?

    ReplyDelete
  8. I loooove that interface!! ditto raffi, it reminds me of the Minority Report. Very exciting. The only downer is hearing the word "microsoft" associated with it. grrrr.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hmmm... Try 'er again, Bird. It worked for me just now. Pro'lly the site was glitched out for a few.

I hear ya, Blueberry. Really, I am so ambivalent 'bout MS cuz it HAS done so very much good for our species by making computing available AND popular. Its negs include being one of the most heinous Corporate Sharks to devour BETTER competitors for the Profit Motive we've ever seen.

MS is basically the highest profile example of both the Best and Worst elements of Capitalism at work.

And the stupid-arsed Politicians who've attempted to "regulate" their business practices have - as usual - done so more for appearances' sake than with an eye towards actually improving the business environment for new and better ideas.

That makes the continuation of Microsoft's worst excesses the fault of the electorate and their ignorance, apathy and greed.

    Blech!

(But the Tech Is still So Cool!!!)

  10. It's true that computers have gotten easier over time. Don't remind me of DOS!

  11. As much as I am a gadget guy, I am old school in how I like to interface with machines. I could never use voice-recognition to write, for example -- my whole creative process revolves around using my hands.

I am, however, all for being able to drag and drop by putting something on the screen. Death to USB ports!

  12. This interface actually looks like fun. I'd be willing to try it.

  13. Death to DOS!

    Errmmm... Already done. Okidokie then... {-;

Dig it, Brando. I'd still be needing a keyboard as well. There's something about the feel of the keys. It's just like with an electronic piano. You've got the sound sampled 20x from a Steinway Grand, but if the keys don't respond just right, it simply ain't the same.

    Lemme know how it works for you, Kevin! {-;

    L8!

  14. Yeah...it looks complicated to me just the same.

  15. We need another computer, but have other things we have to get right now. ugh....I like my laptop from work, but cant use it for too much personal stuff. That would be,,uh,,,whats the word? Oh yeah...wrong!

  16. Howdy Sumo! I doubt that there are two people at MS who really understand HOW this thing works. But I'm just as sure that the learning curve for using it is lower than anything yet introduced.

Unequivocally including the MAC. I've used both and still prefer PCs, even though they are buggier software-wise than Apple's slightly more elegant machine.

I hear ya, Steve. lol! I wish more of my Co's users felt the same way.

Honestly, I don't mind if the user doesn't ANYTHING they want with a Co laptop. I just HATE IT when they let their kids use them to play on the internet.

Still, companies that don't let their laptop users have administrative (install software) rights on their PCs are cowards and foolish, IMO. You either Trust your employees or you hire new ones. Anything else is paternalistic stupidity and - more than money, greed or ignorance - truly the root of all social ills.

Trust them or Help them be trustworthy. If neither of those work then kindly fire them. If a Manager can't do that then they should get out of the business.

    Period.

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. don't mind if the user does - not doesn't.

And should've been fire or reassign them because, as I'm sure we've all seen, some folks are simply mis-matched with their positions, and could be great in a different setting or assignment.

  18. looks quite good fun. not sure how it would work for some things tho

  19. I like the USB ports. They made my life easier.

    :)

  20. Wow! That's really cool!

Of course now spilling coffee is even more of a curse fueled rant...and no more drumming your fingers.

It does look amazing though, I love just watching this stuff come to surface.

    Thanks Michael!

  21. You Raffi, I just realized that those "Minority Report" CPUs are the same thing I was thinking of. I'd forgotten who was doing it though.

    Cool.

    I like the USB idea too, AG. They still work like crap half the time though. Don't know if its Winder's or the device's fault most of the time, and they sure are better than they used to be, eh Brando? {-;

I'd love to find out just what they can do, Michael. Wonder if MS would let me Beta test one for a few years..? :D

Hola, Lynn! Thanks for dropping in and see ya 'round eh. I'll let ya'll know if I get that Beta and you can check 'er out. lol

    My pleasure, 'Nilla.
    "..come to the surface."

Niiice. {-; And I hadn't even thought of the spillage problem! D'oh! That surface damn well better be leak-proof, eh!

  23. Throws a new light on 'hands on'.

    I want!!!!! I WANT!!!

On a second thought - thinking of the various ways The JohnnyB can destroy this one... Hmm...
